VIEWING MARKETING AS AN INVESTMENT – NOT AN EXPENSE

“Hey, what’s going on, guys? This is Scott Theaman here talking to you about sales, marketing, conversion, and helping you to grow your business.

Today, I want to speak with you about marketing as an investment, not an expense. You should never look at your marketing dollars as an expense. Here’s why. If you’re working with the right people who truly understand direct response and truly understand how to put together a process and work with you on the lead gen and then work with you on the in-office and business side to convert those leads, it’s never a fee or it’s never a cost. It’s an investment, because if we’re spending $1 over here and we’re getting 3, 4, $10 over here, that means you’re getting a 3, 4, 5, 10X ROI. So, direct response and marketing investments, it’s all about generating an ROI.

Why do you make an investment? You make an investment so that you earn a return on your investment. If you were to buy a couch like this or a car, that can’t necessarily give you a return. It’s an expense or a cost versus an investment in your marketing future and growing your business and getting leads and getting traction for your business.

Here’s the other way you want to think of it, too, is let’s say that you hire a marketing agency like us, for example, and, depending on the size of the client and the budget, 2 to $10,000 per month. If you were to hire, say, a marketing person as an employee and pay them $3,000 a month as an employee, you’d pay them $36,000 a year. But you’ve got all the troubles, if you will, of a typical employee, payroll, benefits, headaches, just typical dealing with an employee.

The difference when you make an investment with a marketing agency is we can take care of ourselves on that end, and most importantly, we work for you, so if we don’t get you results, you can fire us right away. And we don’t work with clients that we don’t get results for.

That’s pretty much the difference between marketing as a cost versus an investment. You make an investment to earn a return, and whenever you invest in marketing, it should be direct response and you should be generating at least a 2X or more return on your marketing dollars.

I hope you found this helpful, and I look forward to talking to you in the next video.”
